Er zijn twee soorten servomotoren te overwegen. De eerste is de klassieke gelijkstroomservomotor en de tweede is de wisselstroomservomotor, vaak aangeduid als een borstelloze gelijkstroommotor. The brushless dc motor is a three phase synchronous ac motor having a position transducer inside the motor to transmit motor shaft position to the drive amplifier for the purpose of controlling current commutation in the three phases of the motor windings.
 
 
 
Een andere factor die van invloed is op de mechanische tijdconstante is de temperatuur.Dit impliceert dat de magneet en de draden zijn beide op kamertemperatuurDe motoren die in de industrie worden gebruikt, zullen echter warmer werken en kunnen in een omgeving van 40 °C een magnetentemperatuur bereiken van 80 tot 90 °C.
